Hiking in Gitschberg Jochtal South Tyrol Dolomites



Meransen: to the lakes of Seefeld

Itinerary:
From the mountain cable-way station (2059 m) through mountain pastures to the Zaßler Refuge and the Ochsenboden Alpine pasture (2198 m; time: 45 min.). From here trail no. 6, that in some points is somewhat exposed but full of panoramic points, flanks Mt. Val di Mezzo/Fallmetzer (2568 m) to the Campolago/Seefeld Alpine pasture (2340 m; time 1 h 15 min.) and from there to Lake Grande. Then, by trail 14/15, that descends steeply to the Wieserhütte Refuge (rest area) and to the Pranter-Stadel (1850 m) Refuge and continues into Valle d'Altafossa/Altfaßtal, until reaching the Großberghütte Refuge (1645 m).
Descent: moderately steep during the return to Maranza
Time: 4 h 30 min.
Degree of difficulty: medium

Meransen: excursions on the Gitschberg

Itinerary:
1) Itinerary: reaching an altitude of 2000 m with the cable-way (valley station 1400 m).
For expert hikers: from the mountain station to the top of Gitschberg (2512 m - panoramic platform with a view of about 500 peaks). Descent along the back slope of Mt. Cuzzo up to the Valzara/Valzarerjoch Pass, continuing up to the Weiß Alpine pasture; from this point the itinerary joins the easier excursion route.
2) For hikers with less training: from the mountain station up to the Zassler Refuge and then along trail no. 12A up to the Weiß Alpine pasture (2177 m); continue to Lofaine, taking the right path to the Wieser Refuge and the Pranter-Stadel Refuge. The return route passes through Valle d'Altafossa/Altfaßtal, and the Großberg Refuge.
Time: itinerary 1) about 5 hours; itinerary 2) about 4 hours

itinerary 1) 500 m uphill and 1100 m downhill itinerary 2) 100 m uphill and 700 m downhill

Meransen: Kiener Saddle - Alpine pasture

Itinerary:
Starting from the mountain station of the cable-way (2198 m) it follows the route of the ski-lift, at the beginning to the east, then to the south, crossing some steep wooded sections, up to the saddle (Kiener Alpine pasture 1750 m). For the return leg, follow the road up to the centre of the town, passing the Pichlerhof farmstead.
Time: 1 h 45 min.

Mühlbach/Vals: Alta Via to the Fane Alpine pasture at Valles/Vals

Itinerary:
From the mountain station, to the Valles/Valser Joch Pass and the Alpe dei Campani/Schellenberg; passing the Rotenstein Alpine pasture, the trail continues to the Peachenjöchl Pass (2201 m) and the Ochsenalm Alpine pasture, and from there to the Fane Alpine pasture (1739 m - 2 h 15 min.). The return route passes through Valles along the road at the bottom of the valley. (1 h 15 min.)
Time: 3 h 30 min.
Degree of difficulty: a good stride is required
Refreshments: Jochtal Restaurant, Gatterer and Zingerle Refuges on the Fane Alpine pasture

Rodeneck - Kreuzstöckl - Luson/Lüsen


Itinerary:
From the parking lot of Villa/Vill trail no. 1 leads down to the road for Chivo/Gifen, where it takes the fork for Spissa/Spisses; the itinerary continues along trail no. 1 to Kreuzstöckl (984 m), passing the Vitrolerhof and Planatscherhof farmsteads. It continues to the Ploner farmstead and to the bridge of the Lasanca River/Lasankenbrück (766 m) reaching Luson along the provincial road (981 m - 3 hours). For the return follow the same itinerary, or take a bus to Rio di Pusteria via Bressanone.
Time: 5 h 40 min.
Length: 19 km (trail sign no. 1)
Height difference: 660 m round trip
